Colorado Uranium Mining Projects – Raven In this section:

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Uranium Energy Corp’s Raven Project is located in Little Gypsum Valley approximately 6 miles west of UEC’s Bull Canyon and Radium Mountain Projects. The Raven Project consists of 22 claims (Raven 1-22), a total of 440 acres in Sections 3, 10, and 11, T45N, R19W in Montrose County, Colorado. The Salt Wash Member of the Morrison Formation is about 350 feet thick in the Gypsum Valley. In many areas it lies directly on the underlying Pennsylvanian salt. It consists of a sequence of light colored, lenticular, cross-bedded sandstone beds, that alternate with green, gray, red or purple mudstone and claystone. The structure is dominated by a collapsed NW trending salt anticline, and is bordered by a host of peripheral faults. The strata collapsed inward in some areas, assuming a variety of attitudes; at some mines, strata dip as steeply as 40°.

Most of the mineralized zones lie in the uppermost sandstone of the Salt Wash. The upper sandstone ranges in thickness from 30 to 90 feet, but averages about 60 feet. Three to seven mineralized layers or rolls as they have locally been referred to, are distributed vertically. The upper mineralized sandstone layers are generally too thin or to low grade to mine and the greatest mineralization to the lower 20 feet. Roll-type mineralization occurs up to 12 feet thick; blanket-like ore bodies average 2-5 feet thick. Pebbles, thin seams and stringers of claystone and abundant carbonaceous trash are associated with the mineralization. Uranium is localized where the Salt Wash thins over the salt anticline and where it contacts the underlying salt. Topography is relatively flat with beds dipping to the south (4°). Just west of UEC’s claims the beds dip west and are nearly vertical. The project site consists of numerous old mine workings. The Raven Mine and the American Eagle #4 Mine are located in Section 3, T45N, R 19W. The Brooks and Gyp Lease (1-3) Mines are located in Section 10, T45N, R19W, and the American Eagle Group is located in the W ˝ Section 10, T45N, R19W. UEC has acquired an Anschutz Drilling Co., underground map of the American Eagle Mine (1956).
